Star Wars Outlaws guide for beginner scoundrels
With our guides, you can take Kay from novice criminal to seasoned underworld rogue in Star Wars Outlaws
Our Star Wars Outlaws guide is packed with useful information for beginners looking to learn how to make their way in the universe. It's the first ever open-world Star Wars game, so naturally it's packed with things to do, see, fight, sneak past, and swindle.
While the game has an excellent sense of place and is fun at times, as our Star Wars Outlaws review says, it's unfortunately "hindered by poor stealth systems and lacklustre mission design". Still, it just about makes it onto our list of the best Star Wars games you can play now, and there's plenty of fun to find in the scandalous and corrupt criminal underbelly of the Galactic Empire's territory. But there are several other upcoming Star Wars games to keep an eye out for.
Like junior scoundrel Kay Vess and her lovable pet, Nix, you might feel a bit in over your head as a new player trying to keep track of and understand how the game works. If you're tussling with Hutts, Pykes, and even the Empire, and don't know your fathiers from your Fast Talks this Star Wars Outlaws guide will help.

Star Wars Outlaws length
How long is Star Wars Outlaws? Obviously, the length of your playthrough depends on many things, mainly your playstyle and how thoroughly you explore the world. With plenty of side missions, exploration, and other distractions to do, it can take you 30 hours or more to get through, but focused players can power through Kay's story in much less time.
Star Wars Outlaws tips and tricks
The complex criminal underworld can be a bit overwhelming at first, especially since the game throws a few early choices and many tutorials at you. However, these Star Wars Outlaws tips that we wish we knew before getting stuck in should help you learn the ropes of the combat, stealth, and the Reputation system.
If you're just getting started, you might want to know how to remove the Star Wars Outlaws black bars – cinematic though they are, sometimes a super wide field-of-view is a bit annoying when it squashes the image significantly. Additionally, you should be aware that the game is single-player only, so that means no Star Wars Outlaws multiplayer, unfortunately.
Star Wars Outlaws Factions and crime
The dangerous world that Kay finds herself in is dominated by a few major criminal gangs – the Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, the Hutt Cartel, and the Ashiga Clan. As such, you'll be vying for the attention and favor of these Star Wars Outlaws Factions, gaining or losing Reputation depending on your choices and actions.
Although, you'll also need to contend with the iron fist of the Galactic Empire. Committing crimes on their turf doesn't affect any sort of Reputation system but does make you a wanted criminal, meaning you can be arrested, losing progress and credits in the process. Knowing how to get rid of your Star Wars Outlaws Wanted level and keep a low profile is therefore quite important!
Star Wars Outlaws abilities and skills
Star Wars Outlaws does away with the usual XP levelling and skill trees, instead sending you in search of Star Wars Outlaws Experts who can teach Kay the ways of the forced entry, stealth, stealing, speeder piloting, and blaster shooting.
For example, the Star Wars Outlaws hacking minigame, in which Kay slices into a computer serves you well for basic terminals, but some expert help gets you the advanced Star Wars Outlaws Slicing Kit for superior hacking. And when hacking isn't needed, Kay will often need to bypass a lock with the trusty Data Spike in the Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking minigame.
If you get caught in the act, you might have to rely on Star Wars Outlaws Fast Talk to buy you time to react. Shooting your way out isn't ideal, but sometimes things just go wrong. If you're able to escape on your Speeder, knowing how to shoot on a Speeder in Star Wars Outlaws as you make a quick getaway might save you from any pursuers.
Star Wars Outlaws choices, missions, and intel
With several planets packed with colorful crims, Star Wars Outlaws has a lot of missions and intel-based side missions for you to undertake as you make a name for yourself. You'll also face plenty of choices as you go, letting you play factions off each other, double-cross, or find your own path depending on the mission. One of the first choices you'll make is whether to bluff or bribe the bouncer in Star Wars Outlaws but there are many other complicated stealth missions and choices in the early stages of the game:
- Should you buy the Star Wars Outlaws VIP suite invite?
- Here's how to infiltrate Gorak's base in Star Wars Outlaws
- Star Wars Outlaws Rejected intel unlocks a new merchant
- Who should you help in the Star Wars Outlaws Eleera or Gorak choice?
- Which planet should you go to first in Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws loot, items, and gear
Money is king in the criminal underworld of a galaxy far, far away, so knowing how to get Star Wars Outlaws credits is crucial for buying important materials and new gear. Certain merchants sell Star Wars Outlaws Coarseweave (but you can also just find it lying about) which you'll need for various upgrades and new Expert abilities too.
Importantly, some merchants sell clothing, such as belts and jackets, that come with their own perks. Mixing and matching these will bolster Kay's abilities and help you lean into your preferred playstyle, so getting the best Star Wars Outlaws outfits and armor can be very helpful on your illicit adventures. However, if you prioritize fashion over function then the Star Wars Outlaws Ultimate Edition outfits in the Trailblazer's delivery crate could be an option for you.
Star Wars Outlaws exploration and activities
The open worlds of the various Star Wars Outlaws planets are filled with all sorts of missions, as well as secrets to find and things to do as you explore and search for adventure.
Canto Bight is the place for Star Wars Outlaws fathier races as Kay knows, but you won’t be able to bet on them until you find racing terminals in Mirogana on Toshara. Around the same time, you'll happen across Star Wars Outlaws Sabacc tables, letting you partake in a tense card game against other underworld scum and villainy.
While you're exploring rocky areas of the various planets, you might spot some suspiciously cracked and damaged areas, but you'll need to know how to break Star Wars Outlaws rocks and walls to get through and discover what's on the other side.
